Prospective parents may feel hopeless and may not want to try IVF treatment again, but these failures do not mean that you can never have a baby.

In order to achieve success in IVF treatment, the correct diagnosis of the problem must first be made. When we separate the factors that cause infertility according to gender, 30-40% are female-related factors and 40-50% are male-related factors. In addition, factors related to both men and women account for 25%, while no cause can be identified in 15-20% of patients.

Methods Applied in IVF Treatment

ERA Test

The ERA test (Endometrial Receptivity Assay) is a method used in patients who cannot achieve pregnancy despite obtaining a good quality embryo. For a healthy pregnancy, the characteristics of the intrauterine lining where the embryo will attach are as important as the quality of the embryo. The ERA test can increase the chances of pregnancy by determining the most suitable time of the uterus for transfer.

NGS Against Genetic Failures

NGS technology, which provides a detailed and rapid examination of the embryo, enables the identification of embryos with no chromosomal abnormalities and the highest pregnancy-forming capacity. NGS, which allows all chromosomes to be examined, aims to ensure that the embryo is attached to the uterus.

NGS technology is especially recommended for male infertility, infertility of unknown cause, recurrent miscarriages, repeated failed IVF attempts and advanced age patients.

Embryo Selection with Mitoscore Test

The Mitoscore test, which examines embryos based on mitochondria, identifies embryos that can easily attach to the uterus. If the embryo cannot attach to the uterus or if attachment would result in early miscarriage, this can be detected with the Mitoscore test.

Uterine Rest Technique

Studies have shown that the drugs used to grow eggs have a negative effect on the lining of the uterus to a certain extent. In order to eliminate this, good quality embryos obtained during the treatment are frozen and the treatment is interrupted for 2 months to eliminate the effect of the drugs and allow the uterus to rest.

In order for this method to be successful, embryos must be frozen with a high success rate and can be thawed on demand without damage.

IMSI Method to Select Healthy Sperm

Microscopes used for microinjection magnify the sperm up to 400 times to support sperm selection. In the IMSI method, the sperm is magnified up to 6,600 times using a special lens and a computer program. Thus, the morphology of the sperm is observed in detail. In this method, the correct application of the IMSI method is as important as the feature of the microscope.
What are the New Applications to Increase the Chance of Success in Couples with Previous Unsuccessful IVF Treatment?
Couples who have undergone IVF treatment but have not achieved positive results are investigated in detail for the reasons why they cannot get pregnant while starting treatment again. Patients who could not achieve pregnancy in the 1st treatment are not worried. However, if pregnancy has not occurred in 2 or more IVF treatments despite the use of quality embryos, various tests are performed.

First of all, the causes of the expectant mother are investigated and tests are carried out to determine whether there are any abnormalities such as intrauterine adhesions, fibroids or polyps in the uterus that may prevent the embryo from attaching. To do this, fluid is injected into the uterus using ultrasound to check that the uterine cavity is normal. This method is simple and painless for the patient. Another method, uterine X-ray (HSG), is also used to detect such abnormalities. However, because HSG is painful and carries risks such as infection, hysteroscopic examination is more preferred. With hysteroscopy, a small camera system is inserted into the uterus and a detailed examination is obtained. With this easy method, it is also possible to correct abnormalities in the uterus. Hysteroscopy is frequently used in cases of failed IVF treatment and should only be performed by experienced surgeons.

Prevention of embryo implantation due to blockage in the tubes of the expectant mother is another reason for the negative outcome of IVF treatment. In this case, which can be identified by ultrasonography and called hydrosalpenx, it is possible to reveal the extent of the hydrosalpenx more clearly and treat it by taking a uterine film or laparoscopy. Fluid accumulating in the tubes can flow into the uterus, preventing embryos from implanting or causing early miscarriages during pregnancy. In such cases, laparoscopic removal of the tubes or tying them at the point where they join the uterus greatly increases the chances of success. Fluid accumulation in the tubes is one of the most important and most common causes that reduce the chances of IVF in the expectant mother.

Hormonal disorders also interfere with embryo development and embryo implantation. Diseases of the thyroid gland and an increase in the milk hormone (prolactin) secreted by the pituitary gland in the brain are important. Hormone levels measured with a blood test can identify these disorders. Polycystic ovary disease and the increase in insulin hormone it causes can make pregnancy difficult and can also lead to miscarriages. For this reason, the chance of pregnancy can be increased by using diabetes medications that reduce insulin resistance.

Failed IVF Trials Failure in IVF treatments is a time when couples feel physically and mentally exhausted.
